Darn it, I just wanna eat.

It may be the case for a lot of us, that we don’t feel like preparing a meal after a long day at work. Some may stop by McDonalds, KFC, or Panera if you’re feeling like being “health conscious”. Welp, none of these options are particularly “good” for those of us whose bodies have called a mutiny. Don’t get me wrong, I can stop by KFC as well…if I wanna pay for it later.

You see, those of us who have conditions such as an autoimmune disease, cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure, can’t just stop off for a three piece and a biscuit without soon, and very soon, “facing the music”. Well maybe we could, if they removed the gluten, sodium, saturated fat, and processed chicken (which is another topic entirely). Canned and frozen dinners are also out of the question; just read some of those ingredients. I guarantee there are things in there you cannot identify that will do your body no good. The point being, eating an American diet of convenience is very costly.

I don’t know about you, but my body throws a complete joint pained, headache, sore throat, fatigued fit almost immediately. Maybe not always all at once, but you get the picture. That meal better have been worth it because the rest of the day is shot! This all seems so unfair! Why can’t my body let me get away with a burger or a slice of pizza? Everyone else seems to be having cuisine fun, why can’t I?

Today I passed by all sorts of fast-food places and envisioned how good the food would taste. I passed them up only because the consequences of eating them far outweigh the taste. Instead, I ate cucumber slices and hummus. With each crunch I reflected with a bit of gratitude, that my body’s negative reactions give me enough strength to make the best decision for my health, instead of heeding to the addictive lure of those highly processed, deceitfully delicious foods.

When your body reacts immediately, you are often spared a far greater consequence. We get to live. We get to live to make better choices at each and every meal, each and every day. Yes, it can be frustrating at times. Darn it, I just wanna eat, but darn it, I wanna live more.
